Types of Ghana Visas
Business | Tourist | Transit
Tourist Visa
This is the one most of our travelers will need. It covers leisure travel, visiting family and friends, cultural tourism, and events. A standard tourist visa is single entry and valid for up to 60 days. Multiple-entry options can be requested, and if you find yourself wanting to stay a little longer once you’re here — and many do — you can apply for an extension while in-country.
Business Visa
This one is for those coming to Ghana for meetings, conferences, or trade visits. Also valid for up to 60 days. You’ll need a letter of invitation from a Ghanaian company or organisation to apply.
Transit Visa
If you’re simply connecting through Accra’s Kotoka International Airport without entering Ghana, this is what applies. It’s valid for 48 to 72 hours. If you’re staying airside and not passing through immigration, you won’t need one at all.
For our Earth Seed Tours travelers, you’ll be applying for the Tourist Visa. That’s what we’ll be guiding you through.

How to Apply for Your Ghana Visa
There are two ways to get your Ghana visa. We recommend the online route — it’s the most straightforward and the one most of our travelers use. That said, if you prefer to handle things in person, we’ve listed that option as well.
Option 1: Ghana Online Visa Portal (Recommended)
The Ghana Immigration Service operates an online visa application system. This is the standard method and the one we’ll be guiding you through.
Here’s the process:
- Create an account at https://dashboard.ecimsglobal.com/#/login
- Select your visa type — for our travelers, that’s the Tourist Visa
- Fill in your personal details — name, passport number, nationality, travel dates
- Upload the following documents:
– Passport data page (scan or clear photo — your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your travel date)
– Passport-size photograph (white background, recent)
– Proof of accommodation (we will provide this for you)
– Return flight booking or proof of onward travel
– Bank statement covering the last 3 months showing sufficient funds
Pay the visa fee — credit and debit cards are accepted
- Submit your application
- Receive your e-visa by mail — print it out and carry it with your passport when you travel
Processing time:
Visa will only be issued when all requirements have been fully satisfied. Fifteen (15) business days is required for the processing of standard visas. Applicants are, therefore, required to deposit their passports, together with the completed visa application forms, with the supporting documents well ahead of the time of proposed date of travel, in order to avoid possible delays.
Expedited service is also available and takes Seven (7) business days.
Our strong recommendation: Apply at least 6 to 8 weeks before your travel date. This gives you breathing room for processing and any back-and-forth over documents. Trust us on this one — don’t leave it to the last minute.
Option 2: Apply at a Ghanaian Embassy or Consulate
If you prefer to apply in person or by post, you can do so at the Ghanaian Embassy or Consulate in your country. You’ll need the same documents listed above.
United States:
Embassy of Ghana, Washington DC
3512 International Drive NW
Washington, DC 20008
Processing time: In-person applications typically take 10 to 14 business days.
